This exceptional support has been instrumental in helping to build a world-class healthcare and teaching facility…

The McGill University Health Centre Foundation (MUHC) celebrated the exceptional generosity of The R. Howard Webster Foundation in recognition of its $10 million gift to The Best Care for Life (BCFL) campaign. In acknowledgement of this historic contribution, the Adult Emergency Department at the MUHC’s new hospital at the Glen site has been named in the Foundation’s honour.

The R. Howard Webster Foundation’s donation was one of the largest-ever gifts made to the campaign, and as one of the fundraising initiative’s earliest supporters, its decision to invest in the MUHC’s once-in-a-generation hospital redevelopment project has served as great inspiration to the Montreal community.

“The R. Howard Webster Foundation understood from the very beginning the importance of the MUHC’s redevelopment project and the impact that it would have on the future of healthcare in Quebec,” explains John A. Rae, Chairman of The Best Care for Life campaign. “Its leadership donation was a testament to its long-standing commitment to fostering excellence in health care, teaching, and research,” he adds.

The Adult Emergency Department (ED) at the MUHC’s new hospital is one of the busiest places within the facility and sees close to 38,850 patients per year. Designed with the input of hospital staff, the ED was constructed in a linear style, which allows it to contract and expand as patient volumes require. This design also provides better visibility of patients, and staff can also help each other more quickly and easily.

“The R. Howard Webster Foundation has a long history of supporting projects that benefit and improve Canadian society and it was very proud to contribute to the MUHC’s redevelopment project,” states Howard Davidson, President of the R. Howard Webster Foundation. “Our long-time association with the MUHC and its constituent hospitals dates back decades, and given the Foundation’s previous support of emergency care medicine, naming the Adult Emergency Department at the Glen site in its honour is a significant recognition,” he explains.

The Best Care for Life has exceeded its $300 million fundraising objective, and was created to support the construction of the MUHC’s new hospital facility, including the purchase of the Glen site’s land, but also to fund important renovations at existing hospitals, as well as contribute to the construction of the Shriners Hospital.

“The MUHC Foundation was very grateful to count the R. Howard Webster Foundation among its leadership donors to The Best Care for Life campaign,” says Julie Quenneville, President of the MUHC Foundation. “Its exceptional support of the MUHC and McGill University has been instrumental in helping to build a world-class healthcare and teaching facility that will serve Montreal and the province of Quebec for years to come,” she states.
